About Our District
The Winterset Community School District is the eleventh largest district in the state in terms of area with 283 square miles. The district ranks in the top 18% for student enrollment-large enough to offer a variety of curricular offerings but small enough to avoid the the complexities and red-tape of larger districts. There is ample opportunity for students to be involved in curricular and co-curricular activities. The ratio of students to total teaching staff is 14.6.
All district attendance centers are located in Winterset. There is a K-4 elementary school, a 5-6 middle school, a 7-8 junior high school, and 9-12 senior high school. In addition there is a technology center, a bus garage, and an administration building.
The communities of East Peru and Patterson, along with Winterset, are incorporated into the school district.
