About Our High School
The educational program of the high school is comprehensive in nature, designed to meet the diverse needs of a student seeking further education or the student seeking immediate employment. In excess of 130 course offerings stimulate the choices of the 550 high school students. The class of 1997 had an average ACT score of 21.8 and included one National Merit finalist.
The high school building was constructed in 1968, is well maintained, and demonstrates the pride students and the community have in their school. The weight training and wrestling rooms, added in 1994, are among the largest in the state. The Technology Center houses Industrial Technology, WHS-TV, and art classes. This facility was constructed in 1997. On the high school site are the football, track, baseball, soccer,and softball fields as well as practice recreation areas.
The co-curricular programs are diverse in nature, with students excelling in music, dramatics, athletics, academic competitions, forensics, and club activities. Student works are showcased through the school's television broadcasting channel and the yearbook. Student government encourages involvement in school and community political affairs.
Approximately ninety percent of the graduates continue their education beyond high school, with half of the graduates going on to four-year colleges. The staff of the schools receive many positive comments about how well prepared the students are for advanced education and for the work force.
The junior high school building was constructed in 1994.
